Jewelry Care and Maintenance

All Terramani macrame jewelry is made with polyester waxcord and is therefore very sustainable. Colors generally don’t fade or tear easily and each piece is made to last a lifetime. Still, it is important to handle your jewelry with care.

Terramani jewelry that is made only with natural stones and waxcord is especially durable and water resistant. However, it is strongly advised to protect them against the elements as best as possible. It is recommended not to wear your jewelry during sports, cleaning, swimming, showering, or sleeping. Chemical products, salty water, excessive sweat, or alcohol may damage your jewelry. If your jewelry comes into contact with chemicals such as chlorine, it’s best to rinse it with water. Beauty products can also impair your jewelry. Hence make sure to apply lotions or perfume before putting on your jewelry.

Some of our jewelry is made with silver beads. It is natural that they can lose their shine after a while. You can use a special silver cleaning cloth to rub and clean the silver until it shines again.

Some of our pieces contain (golden) stainless steel beads. These are plated beads and can lose their color if not taken care of properly. Therefore it is strongly recommended not to wear them in water or when you go to bed.

We also use brass beads. Brass consists primarily of copper and zinc, while stainless steel mostly contains iron and chromium. Whereas stainless steel has a silver or chrome appearance, brass appears more bronze or golden. Both have the advantage that they do not rust. Brass may become dull after some time if worn frequently. To make your brass shiny again, you can use a bit of warm water, some soap, and a soft toothbrush.

Gemstones can usually be cleaned with a bit of water and a soft toothbrush. However, some gemstones react differently to warm water. If you are not sure, it is best to check online how to clean your specific gemstone.
